KIIT University founder Achyuta Samanta directed to appear before high-level committee

Amid the student unrest at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar following the suspicious death of a girl student from Nepal, the founder of the institution, Achyuta Samanta has been directed to appear before the high-level committee constituted by the Odisha govt to probe the matter. 

Samanta has been directed to appear before the panel at 6:30 PM tomorrow, informed sources.

As per reports, the high-level committee gave the direction after reviewing the situation following a visit to the university on Wednesday. The committee has reportedly collected some facts about the incident and based on those facts, a notice has been issued to Samanta in this regard. 

As per the notice, Samanta will appear before the committee at the mini-conference hall of the state guest house tomorrow evening.

As per sources, the State and the country have earned bad reputations due to the unfortunate incident that occurred at the KIIT University and the Odisha government has taken up the matter very seriously.

Concerns Raised over Nepali Students' Security

Concerns were raised over reports of Nepali students being beaten up by the security guards. The students were also reportedly threatened and forced to leave the university campus without permission from the Higher Education Department.

Meanwhile, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan has said that accountability will be upheld, and no individuals, even slightly involved in the incidents, will be exempted from scrutiny or justice.

High-level Committee over KIIT Issue

The high-level Committee was previously constituted under the Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Odisha, Home Department along with the Principal Secretary Women & Child Development, and Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Higher Education Department for inquiry into the matter.
