Niranjan Patnaik house theft: Police recreate crime scene with high-profile burglar 'Spider Satish'
The Commissionerate Police on Thursday conducted a detailed crime scene recreation to illustrate how the notorious 'Spider Satish' carried out a burglary at the residence of Niranjan Patnaik, former state president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.
Satish, the burglar, renowned for his building-scaling abilities and for committing high-profile thefts, is currently under police remand for three days.
Police brought Satish to Patnaik's home to reconstruct the break-in, shedding light on his theft and subsequent escape. The police aim to meticulously fill in gaps and uncover the techniques used to facilitate the theft, as part of their investigation into the theft.
Satish was brought for the scene recreation during his three-day custody period as part of the investigation. This step serves to reconstruct the crime execution and bolster the evidence against the suspect.
Spider Satish's Modus Operandi
Satish Reddy, known as 'Spider Satish', employed sophisticated techniques in his burglaries. He used Google and YouTube to research wealthy targets, focusing on houses with sliding windows for easy access. Satish wore gloves, shoes, and masks to avoid leaving prints or being captured on CCTV.
His expertise in scaling walls and balconies earned him the 'Spider' moniker. Satish adapted his methods after each arrest, learning from past mistakes. He even used social media apps with disappearing messages, like Snapchat, to communicate and evade detection.
Extensive Criminal History:
Spider Satish's criminal career spans over a decade, with involvement in more than 100 property offence cases across multiple states including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. He has 70 cases registered against him, including a high-profile theft of 7kg gold from a former MLA's house in Kerala.
Satish's criminal journey began in 2010 when he was jailed after a car accident, where he learned burglary techniques from seasoned criminals. His targets were primarily wealthy individuals and VIP areas, with a history of successful heists including one at another Congress leader's house in the same locality in 2023.
Luxurious Lifestyle:
Despite his criminal activities, Satish Reddy lived a life of luxury. He owned three flats in different cities - Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Kerala. His Vizag residence was equipped with high-end amenities, including a foreign dog and a home gym. Satish maintained two separate households, with one wife in Vizag and another in Hyderabad. At the time of his arrest, he was enjoying leisure time traveling with one of his wives, showcasing how his criminal proceeds funded a lavish lifestyle.
Stolen items Recovery:
Following Satish's arrest, police recovered most of the stolen items from Niranjan Patnaik's house, including cash, gold, and diamond ornaments worth over Rs 1 crore. Additional seized items included a car, mobile phones, torch lights, and the apparel used during the crime. The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner has applied for a five-day remand to further investigate the case.
