The accused Advik Srivastava (L) and the high-level probe committee (R) at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar
The Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh stated that the Commissionerate Police has taken Advik Srivastava, the key accused and ex-boyfriend of Prakriti Lamsal, on a three-day remand for interrogation. Additionally, a high-level probe committee also informed that it will conduct a voice spectrography to ascertain the truth behind multiple voice messages being circulated online and alleged to be call and voice message records between Srivastava and Lamsal.
The news was shared today as the high-level fact-finding committee comprising senior officials led by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Odisha Home Department began their second consecutive day of probe into the death of Lamsal, the KIIT University B. Tech third-year student from Nepal who had allegedly taken her own life on Sunday.
The claimed voice notes were reportedly released by peers of Lamsal and featured a barrage of abuses and derogatory remarks, allegedly made by Advik Srivastava.
Further, at multiple points in the voice clippings, the deceased could be heard breaking down over remarks made by the accused, which her peers have claimed was a result of extreme mental pressure brought upon by abuses, harassment and blackmail by Srivastava.
Meanwhile, the high-level committee investigating the incident visited the campus and questioned students and staff inside. The gathered information will be compiled into a report and submitted to the state government, said Home Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, a member of the committee. He also stated that discussions have taken place with Nepalese representatives regarding the case.
Additionally, the Police Commissioner visited the KIIT campus and stated that the area is now under police control and that the seized mobile phones and laptops of both the victim and the accused have been sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
Despite the gravity of the situation, KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta has yet to make any public statement regarding the incident. However, the university’s Vice-Chancellor and other authorities have released apology and regret letters regarding the incident and alleged use of excessive force by campus security.
