Gorakhpur shocker; Man shoots at 2 persons after being mocked as ‘motu’
A 24-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district allegedly opened fire on two individuals who mocked him for being overweight during a community feast, police officials said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Arjun Chauhan, was arrested on Friday following a complaint lodged at Khajni police station.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday but stemmed from an earlier altercation. Chauhan, a resident of Belghat, attended a feast near a temple with his uncle earlier this week.
During the event, Anil Chauhan and Shubham Chauhan from Manjhariya allegedly taunted him with the term “motu” (fat), sparking tension.
Enraged, Chauhan and his friend Asif Khan tracked the duo’s movements. On Thursday, they intercepted the victims’ vehicle near the Tenua toll plaza along a highway. After a failed initial attempt, the accused dragged both men out of their car and fired at them before fleeing.
Police Response and Aftermath
Passersby rushed the injured to a district hospital, from where they were referred to a medical college for further treatment. Both victims are now stable, confirmed Superintendent of Police (South) Jitendra Kumar.
