A woman and her daughter were allegedly tied with ropes and mercilessly beaten by a group of men on suspicion of practicing witchcraft at Gadigaon village under Khunta Police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged by the woman at Khunta Police Station on Monday.

The woman has named as many as seven people in her complaint including ones Dasarath Nayak, Nana Hansda, Rachana Hansda and Govinda Hansda as perpetrators and sought police action against them for torturing her family.

"They barged into our house yesterday and tied our limbs with ropes before physically torturing me and my daughter. They have also threatened us to abandon the village or else face dire consequences,” the woman stated in her allegation.
Meanwhile, the victim duo has taken shelter at the house of a local resident Sibashankar Hansda, who is a teacher by profession.

Reacting on the incident, Sibashankar said, “The woman and her daughter were attacked but I rescued them and now they are living in my house. We are waiting for the police to take exemplary action against this atrocity."
