Sundergarh: The district manager of Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation (TDCC), Sundargarh was on Wednesday detained by Vigilance sleuths while he was on his way to Bhubaneswar with Rs 19 lakh unaccounted cash.

According to reports, TDCC manager Jayprakash Mohanty, was travelling in a Bolero SUV from Sundargarh district headquarters to Jharsuguda from where he was scheduled to travel Bhubaneswar.

On a tip off, vigilance team led by DSP Sudhansu Pujari chased and intercepted the vehicle at Masnikani toll plaza.

The anti-graft officials recovered over Rs 19 lakh cash from the SUV during the search. Mohanty was detained after he failed to give satisfactory answers regarding the source of the huge amount of cash.

“We received information from reliable sources that TDCC district manager was travelling in a car with huge amount of cash. We chased him and detained him at Masunikani toll plaza. During search, we found above Rs 19 lakh cash. He failed to give satisfactory answer regarding the money. We are now verifying it,” said Sudhansu Pujari, vigilance DSP.

Mohanty is also being questioned regarding the sources of the cash, Pujari added.

Mohanty admitted that he was carrying the cash to Bhubaneswar. When asked, he replied that some amount of the cash belongs to him while rest were of the office. However, he could not clarify on it.
