Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Wednesday registered its highest ever single-day Covid-19 toll with as many as 40 people succumbing to the virus while 8,399 new cases were reported across the State in the last 24 hours.

As per the information in the State Covid-19 dashboard, the fresh fatalities pushed the death toll in the State to 2831.
With 11095 new recoveries, the recovery tally in the State went up to 69, 2027. 

The cumulative caseload stands at 782131. At present, there are 87,220 active cases in the state.

Out of fresh Covid cases reported, 4741 were from quarantine while 3658 were local contacts.

As per the state government data, out of the total reported cases, Khordha district accounted for the most number of cases with 1102 followed by Cuttack with 766 cases and Jajpur with 514.

Mayurbhanj added 485 cases followed by Sundergarh which reported 477 new cases while Puri stood behind it with 475 cases and Angul with 468. Similarly, 451 people tested positive for the virus in Dhenkanal district in the last 24 hours.

Districts recorded below 300 cases are Rayagada (292), Jagatsinghpur (269), Balasore (240), Nayagarh (223), Kendrapara (210).

Similarly, districts that registered less than 100 daily infections are Nuapada (34), Kandhamal (95), Jharsuguda (53), Ganjam (65), Gajapati (80), Deogarh (81).
