Balasore: As many as two persons were injured critically after armed miscreants opened fire indiscriminately at them during a loot bid at a jeweller’s house at Saudu village under Soro police limits in Balasore district on late  Tuesday night.

According to reports, a group of 10 armed miscreants barged into the house of a jeweller named Sanatan Kamina at around 2 am last night and looted jewelleries worth over Rs 10 lakh by terrorizing the family members at gunpoint.

Family members shouted at the miscreants while they tried to decamp with the valuable items. Some neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the screaming to enquire about the incident.

In a bid to escape the villagers, miscreants opened around ten rounds of fire at the villagers leaving two of them critically injured.

The injured have been identified as Rabindra Barik and his son of the same village.

“We rushed to the spot after hearing noise and firing sound. Rabindra Barik and his son entered the house of the jeweller in a bid to capture the looters. The miscreants opened fire at them. Rabindra and his son sustained multiple bullet injuries on head and chest,” said Bijay Barik, a neighbor.

They had come with arms and other sharp weapons to loot the house, Barik added. 
The injured were immediately rushed to district headquarters hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

On being informed, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident after registering a case in this regard.
