Traders Association of Kuchinda in Sambalpur district has been observing bandh since Saturday for an indefinite period of time demanding restoration of the floating bridge and bus connectivity into the town.
The Kuchinda Bus Owners’ Association has also extended its support for the bandh.
As per reports, Kuchinda market remained closed due to the bandh which began on Saturday morning. Vehicular movement also came to a grinding halt. Common people and students faced a lot of problems in their day-to-day communication. However, emergency services were allowed to function despite the bandh.
As per the members of the association, the bandh will continue for indefinite period till the demands are addressed by the district administration.
“The floating bridge which is connecting the city to other parts of Sambalpur has been lying in a dangerous condition. It needs urgent repair and restoration,” said a member of the association.
“We have appraised the district administration of our problems several times. However, our plea has always fallen on deaf ears,” he said.
The protestors also demanded bus connectivity from the Old Bus Stand.
“For better communication facilities in our area, bus connectivity from the Old Bus Stand is necessary. We have brought the matter to the attention of the district administration several times, but they seem to be least bothered,” alleged another member.
