Even as resentment continues to simmer among consumers over frequent power cuts and excessive hike in the bill amount by Tata Power, transformer manufacturers in Odisha have alleged that the company is refusing to purchase products from them.
On Friday, members of the Odisha Transformer Manufactures Association (OTMA) alleged in a press conference that the company is functioning in an autocratic way ever since it took over CESU.
“Tata Power is not buying a single transformer from manufacturers in Odisha. The company is not even giving recognition to the State manufacturers as vendors,” alleged OTMA president Sarada Prasanna Das.

Due to this partisan treatment by Tata Power, the business establishment of more than 60 transformer manufacturers are about to be stopped, claimed Das.
OTMA has sought the State government’s intervention in this matter to revitalise the condition of the transformer manufacturing units in the State.
While the State government is giving importance to ‘Make In Odisha’ initiative, Tata Power’s apathy towards transformer manufacturers in the State has ruined the micro, small and medium industries in the State, said OTMA General Secretary Satwik Swain.
“We request Tata Power to give vendor recognitions to all transformer and allied item manufacturers at the earliest. The company should give relaxation in the vendor eligibility criteria and accord priority to Odisha manufacturers,” said Swain.
“When our State is producing quality transformers and exporting the products outside, there is no logic behind such apathy of Tata Power towards us,” he added.
