In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly tried to kill her father with the help of her husband, sister and another unidentified man over money at Jharsuguda on Friday night.

As per reports, the Jharsuguda Police has arrested the four accused on charges of trying to kill one Kailash Meher, who runs a butcher shop, by setting the latter’s room on fire. The incident occurred at Meher’s residence at Lecture Colony in the Western Odisha Town.

Meher alleged that his elder daughter, son-in-law, younger daughter and an unknown accomplice entered his room last night and locked him up before pouring kerosene all over. However, when they lighted up his home, Meher escaped death by breaking the asbestos roof.

He immediately informed the local police and the Fire department who doused the fire afterwards.

Valuables including a motorbike and clothes were reduced to ashes before the firefighters could put out the blaze.

Speaking to OTV, Meher alleged, "They locked me up in my house and tried to burn me down by sprinkling kerosene all over. But I was lucky as I managed to break the asbestos roof and escaped unhurt."

"My daughters and son-in-law regularly demand money from me. They tried to kill me on Thursday when I refused to give in to their demands," Meher further alleged.

The police have launched a probe after arresting the accused.
