It was always a dream for Amit Mallick, a retired Navy officer, to explore India by touching four extreme corners of the country on his motorcycle. Recently, the youth from Odisha was successful in completing the ‘Bharat Parikrama’ expedition by covering a distance of nearly 20,000 kms.
Amit, who was working as a petty officer with the Indian Navy, had retired in August 2021. Though initially, he had planned an international road trip, it did not materialise due to Covid-19 restrictions. It was then Amit decided to do something which had not been achieved by anyone in such road trips in the country.
As part of a mission to visit all the four corners of the India map, Amit set off on the expedition in September last year with a message to create awareness among people.
“After my retirement, I, at last, got an opportunity to visit all places in India. I wanted to do something unique and decided to touch all extreme corners which had not been done by any biker so far in one go,” said Amit.
Amit visited Ladakh in the North, Kanyakumari in the South, Koteshwar in the West and Kibithoo in the East in the road trip expedition while covering 28 States and 7 Union Territories.
It was a solo road trip and Amit made most of the time interacting with people whenever he halted during his travel. Amit has covered several states including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Punjab, Ladakh, Gujarat, Kanyakumari, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Guwahati during his road expedition.
“I have got several job offers from the private sector. But I am keen to study and prepare for the civil services,” Amit added.
