Three days after a woman in bridal attire sat on a dharna outside a house in Brahma Nagar area of Berhampur protesting her banishment from her ‘groom’s house, the father of the ‘groom’ on Wednesday finally admitted that she was indeed her daughter-in-law.
Putting an end to the drama, which caught attention of the entire State, Pramod Sahu, the father of the ‘groom’, identified as Sumit, broke his protracted silence and acknowledged Dimple Dash as his daughter-in-law.
Dimple has been protesting outside Sahu’s residence since Monday seeking entry into the former’s house after she was allegedly deserted by Sumit on the wedding day.
Meanwhile, Sahu admitted that his son Sumit and Dimple had a legal wedding at a marriage registrar’s office sometime back.
“I admit that Sumit had married Dimple. But after marriage, she lodged a harassment case against my family which is completely baseless. We all are out on bail now and the matter is still sub-judice,” said Sahu.
Sahu claimed that of late, he learnt Sumit had filed a divorce petition. “I was not at home since the last eight days. That is why I was unaware of Dimple’s protest outside my house,” he said.
Speaking to OTV, Sumit said, “Dimple has lodged a false harassment case against me and my family and the matter is sub-judice. Following her complaint, I filed a divorce petition in September 2021 as I ran out of options.”
Sumit said he was hurt by the public protest of Dimple which earned a bad name for his family. “She could have moved the right forum to seek justice. But by protesting in front of our house, she is spreading disharmony in the community,” Sumit alleged.
Meanwhile, Dimple claimed that she was living with Sumit at Bramhanagar and she has all evidence to prove her marriage with the former.
“I and Sumit rented a house in Kumbharaplli and lived there. Later, I stayed at my in-law’s house for six months. I have all supporting evidence,” she claimed.
On Monday Dimple sat on a dharna in front of Sumit’s house after he did not turn up at the marriage venue where they were supposed to tie the knot.
