The Odisha Television Limited (OTV) on Monday announced a scholarship after journalist Arindam Das, who lost his life in line of duty while covering the rescue operation of an elephant, along with an ODRAF team, at Mundali barrage in Cuttack last month. 

The announcement regarding the institution of the scholarship was made by the Managing Director of OTV, Jagi Mangat Panda at a memorial meeting organised at the office of the news channel on the ‘Ekadashaha’ of Arindam Das .

As per the announcement, the scholarship will be awarded to a journalism student every year.  

“Today is the 11th day ritual (Ekadashaha) of Arindam Das. On this occasion, OTV is announcing a scholarship in the name of Arindam Das, the brave hero. Under the scholarship scheme, one student will be given full scholarship to pursue journalism every year,” Jagi Mangat Panda said. 

She said Arindam’s works in the field of journalism will inspire the next generation of journalists. The memorial meet was attended by all staff of OTV who paid tributes to the daredevil journalist. 

Earlier, OTV had announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the bereaved family of Arindam Das , who passed away after the boat on which he was travelling with the ODRAF team capsized near Mundali barrage in Cuttack on September 24.

While making the announcement Jagi Mangat Panda had said, "Losing Arindam is a colossal loss not only for me but for our entire organization. There will never be another Arindam."
