Rahul Sahu, who had fallen into a borewell at Janjgir Champa district in Chhatishgarh, was rescued after a 104-hour-long operation on Tuesday night thanks to relentless efforts of rescue team involved in the operation.
At a time when people find it hard to spend a minute with a snake, Rahul was stuck in the borewell with a snake for 104 hours. Thus, rescuing him from the borewell was risky also. But rescue team officials did not give up till the last moment.
As many as 500 personnel, including officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army, local police and the district administration, carried out the massive rescue operation since June 10 evening. Apart from the brave boy Rahul, rescue officials also deserve a pat for not giving up till they rescued Rahul. Let’s meet NDRF inspector Mahvir Mohanty who was in the operation and played a crucial role in the rescue operation.
Sharing his experience, Mahavir said, “We got a message from a person residing at Janjgir Champa seeking our help to rescue Rahul. The sender had urged for immediate help from us following which I left for Janjgir Champa with my team with the permission of higher authorities. Till we reached our destination, we kept on talking to officials present there to know status of Rahul.”
He continued: “It was an open borewell. So, chances borewell collapse was looming large. From the very beginning we have advised the fellow officials engaged in the drive to ensure oxygen supply for the victim apart from providing enough light to the area. Besides, we urged the local administration to vacate people from the spot to avoid chances of borewell collapse.”
“Soon after reaching the village, we installed CCTV camera to keep a tab on his heath. We managed to send food for Rahul so that he could not be feeble. We tried to rescue him through borewell. As Rahul was mentally not stable, he did not respond. Thus, we had to dig 75 ft to rescue Rahul. It was a challenging task to dig 75 ft. Temperature kept rising in the underground making difficult for us to breathe. But our priority was Rahul. We spent sleepless nights and even skipped meals so that we could rescue him as soon as possible. Finally we took the help of machines to rescue Rahul”, Mahavir signed off.
