Odisha 5T Secretary VK Pandian faced strong protest by leaders and supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during his visit to Rourkela on Wednesday.

Pandian reportedly visited the town to review stadium works when supporters of BJP’s Panposh organisational district held a protest alleging land irregularities in the Civil Township area.

The protestors were seen shouting slogans ‘Pandian go back’ accusing the secretary of corruption. Several protestors including women were picked up by the police following the protest.

Latika Patnaik, president of BJP’s Panposh organisational district, said, “As 5T secretary has come to Rourkela, we wanted to ask him about the scam and demand action against those involved. However, police picked us up from the gate, as if we do not have the rights to ask him questions.”

“The secretary is reviewing stadiums in Rourkela. He must answer why the land scam happened and action must be taken against those involved,” she added.

This is not the first time the State 5T secretary faced the anger of locals. Earlier this month, a group of nursing staff had staged protest over their disengagement during the visit of Chief Secretary and 5T Secretary to Bolangir district.

The healthcare professionals had staged an impromptu protest and shouted slogans against the Chief Secretary and 5T Secretary demanding their immediate reinstatement.
