The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik for maintaining a stoic silence over the sensational Mamita murder case and charged the latter of shielding the accused involved in the killing of the Kalahandi lady teacher.

At a presser, State BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said that the lady teacher was brutally murdered, her body chopped up in pieces and her body dumped 40 ft below the ground. The prime accused Gobinda Sahu had received undue favours from the Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra and other influential leaders of the ruling BJD, he alleged.

“It is unfortunate the way the State government is shielding those involved in the heinous crime. Even after a month, the government is yet to wake up from its slumber. Be it the Itishree, Babina or Kunduli incident, the government has failed to deliver justice. The Mamita Meher case is also no different,” said Harichandan.

Harichandan further alleged that though several influential BJD leaders were involved in such atrocities against women, no action has been taken against them. “It seems the Odisha CM has started to shield his own leaders He is sitting like 'Dhritarashtra' which cannot be accepted at all. The BJP will continue its fight for justice for Mamita Meher,” said Harichandan.

Harichandan further said that the party demands the immediate dismissal of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra whose complicity in the lady teacher murder case has been alleged. Apart from this, the Odisha government should immediately order a CBI probe into the incident. The saffron party also alleged that all attempts are being made to suppress the Mamita Meher murder case.

“We appeal people to boycott the scheduled visit of the Odisha CM to Kalahandi on November 8. We also urge people in the State to boycott future programmes of CM till justice is delivered to deceased Mamita. Our protest will continue till the concerned Minister is dismissed and a CBI probe is ordered. The effigies of the Minister will be burnt at 314 places in Odisha on November 8,” Harichandan added. Meanwhile, the BJD leaders could not be contacted over the remarks and allegations levelled by the senior BJP leader.
