Intensifying its demand to drop the Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged complicity in the murder of Mahaling school teacher Mamita Meher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today observed 12-hour bandh in Sambalpur.

The BJP also demanded immediate release of Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of Mamita.

Except the essential services, all shops, government and private institutions remained shut in the region while traffic movement on some key routes was hit in the morning.

As per reports, security has been beefed up in the region to ensure no deterioration of the law and order situation during the bandh.

On the other hand, the BJP Yuva Morcha has decided to gherao SP offices across the State to further intensify their demand.

Meanwhile, a 15-member team of the BJP led by Odisha BJP president Samir Mohanty will meet the family members of the deceased teacher today.
