In a tragic incident, a student of the government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Barbil in Keonjhar district died while another critically injured after they came in contact with 11 KV electricity cable on Monday. 

According to initial reports, the mishap occurred when the student duo was putting up banners for a National Apprenticeship Mela scheduled to be held at the ITI campus today.   

An iron ladder used by them to put up the banners accidentally touched an 11KV power cable that passed through the area. Saroj Ghana, who was on the ladder, fell down after the ladder touched the live electric wires. Another student, who was holding the ladder, also suffered injuries.

The duo was first rushed to Barbil Community Health Centre in critical condition from where they were shifted to Tata Steel Hospital, Joda. However, the doctors at the hospital declared Saroj dead. Another student was undergoing treatment at the hospital. 

The deceased, who hailed from Mayurbhanj district, was studying fitter trade at the ITI.
