A 5-year-old boy was killed in Gajapati's Palada village under Adaba police limits after a swarm of honey bees suddenly attacked him and several others while he was out in a forest with his father on Sunday.
Moreover, seven others have also sustained injuries in the attack of which the health condition of a 3-year-old child is said to be critical.
As per reports, a man took his cattle out to the forest for grazing with three of his sons also accompanying him to the jungle. However, the swarm of honey bees attacked them in the forest.
After learning about the incident, wife of the man and several other villagers rushed to the forest to rescue them. However, the bees also attacked them leaving several injured.
"I took my cattle into the forest for grazing. Suddenly, a swarm of bees stung everyone," said the victim of the bee attack.
"I rushed to the forest after learning about the attack. But, the bees attacked us and injured everyone. While one died, six others were injured," said the wife of the victim.
"As many as seven persons have been admitted to the hospital. As informed by them (villagers), one died last night so they didn't bring him to the hospital. However, of the seven injured persons, the health condition of a minor is critical as his face and hands have alarmingly swollen," said Dr Namita Panda, Medical Officer, Mohana Community Healthcare Centre.
"Health condition of all others is stable. They have been admitted and are under observation for 24 hours. They will be discharged after improvement in their health condition," she added.
