A man was reportedly thrashed by a hotel owner and his son over Rs 5 at Laxmi Bazaar area under Ghasipura Police limits in Keonjhar district. A purported video of the incident has been doing rounds on various social media platforms.

Based on the complaint of the victim, Ghasipura Police immediately swung into action and arrested the accused hotel owner. However, another attacker, who is a minor, is still at large. The hotel owner will be forwarded to court today, informed police sources.

As per reports, the victim visited ‘Maa Hotel’ at Laxmi Bazaar to have lunch yesterday. After having food, when he went to the counter to pay the bill, the hotel owner demanded Rs 45. As he did not have change, he offered Rs 40 and requested the hotel owner to allow him pay the remaining Rs 5 later.

The hotel owner however refused and this led to an altercation between the two. And, the situation turned worse after the hotel owner and his son allegedly started thrashing him.

“He asked me to pay Rs 45. However, I argued that how could they charge Rs 45 for a plate which only contained rice, dal and sabji. An argument erupted between us over this. However, later, I paid him Rs 40 and requested him to allow me to give the pending amount later. But he refused and assaulted me on the road,” alleged the victim.

"We have registered a case (No 187) and arrested the hotel owner Madhu Sahu. He will be forwarded to the court today," Ghasipura IIC, Manoranjan Bishi told IANS over phone.
