Hundreds of migrant labourers from Odisha, who are working in a private organisation in the Kingdom of Bahrain, have alleged that they are being tortured by the company authorities and urged the Odisha government to rescue them.

The migrant workers alleged that poor quality food is being served to them and they are being made to do overwork, way more than what was asked to them before they joined the organisation. Besides, they alleged that the company authorities do not even provide them basic healthcare facilities.

A purported video of the migrant workers, who are mainly from Khordha, Banapur and Balugaon, protesting the alleged torture of the company has gone viral on social media.

Vrindaban Biswal, an Odia migrant labourer stuck in Bahrain said, “We have been made to do works that we were not meant to do.

Moreover, the food is really poor here. We have been agitating for the last five days but they are not listening to us.”

Laxmi Nanda, a resident of Subudhipatana whose son is stuck in the same company in Bahrain said, “The company officials are cruel. They are physically assaulting my son if he refuses to work for them. At least 15 workers are missing. I request the State government to bring my son back.”

Similarly, another aggrieved mother, Saraju Subudhi from the same Subudhipatana village said, “My son is suffering from chest problem. He is unable to breathe. But nobody takes him to the hospital and there is no medical facility.”

She urged the government to take immediate steps to rescue his son from the foreign soil.
