The Covid-19 guidelines in place to curb the spread of infection was blatantly violated during the marriage of BJD MLA from Chandbali, Byomakesh Ray. The lawmaker tied the nuptial knot for the second time on Friday.

According to allegations, Covid rules were flouted during the grand wedding event held at a hotel in Chilika. While Covid protocols allow only 25 attendants in a marriage, huge crowd was allegedly seen during the MLA’s wedding. The crowd was seen dancing to the tunes of popular numbers. 

Barring a few people, most of the attendants were found without masks while social distancing norms were blatantly violated during the wedding ceremony, it was alleged.

While the video has invited sharp criticism from all quarters, Ray dismissed the allegations and clarified that the marriage function was held in compliance with Covid guidelines.

“We had invited a few number of guests as per the Covid norms. All the invitees had undergone prior Covid-19 test. The video might be an old one posted by someone,” Ray claimed.     

It is noted that Ray was married to Nilima Pradhan who died in February, 2020. The MLA has a daughter from his first marriage.
