The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday ordered the closure of Unit-1 inside haat (market) following reports of mass violation of Covid appropriate behaviour.

As per the latest BMC order, the Unit-1 haat (Wholesale & Retail) will remain closed till July 1, 2021.

The decision to close down the market was taken following reports of BMC enforcement squads and police personnel, BMC order read.

“In view of mass violation of Covid appropriate behaviour as reported on June 23 by BMD enforcement squads and police personnel and in larger public interest and with a view to contain any possibilities of spread of Covid-19 virus, the Unit 1 inside haat (wholesale & retail) is hereby closed until July 1,2021,” BMC order read.

Not only Wednesday, similar rush was also witnessed at the haat today. It is pertinent to mention here that people are indulging in panic buying of essential commodities especially before the weekend shutdown in the smart city.

The weekend shutdown is currently imposed in several districts including Bhubaneswar to break the Covid-19 chain.
