A woman, who had been seeking justice after allegedly being ditched by her lover-turned husband, has accused police personnel of assaulting her brother when she attempted self-immolation on the police station premises here.
The incident took place at Simulia police station in the district yesterday when the complainant along with her brother reached there to inquire about action taken by cops on her FIR.
Alleging that no action has been taken by the cops, the woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on her. However, a woman prevented her from taking the extreme step.

Soon a policeman and another plain-cloth youth who is said to be a driver at the police station, dragged the complainant’s brother into the police station. Later, the cops allegedly kicked and assaulted the youth inside the police station.
“I had lodged an FIR on June 9. As no action has been taken, I reached the police station yesterday along with my brother to inquire into it, but they refused to give me justice,” said the complainant.
“When I threatened to immolate self, the police personnel caught hold of my brother and dragged him into the police station. They kicked and assaulted my brother. I want justice,” she added.
Dismissing the allegations, Simulia police station in charge Jayant Behera said, “We had asked her to file a case. After initial reluctant, she agreed to lodge an FIR. On the basis of her FIR, a case has been registered and we will take action.”
Speaking on the allegations, he said, “She was making up such allegations. She was not cooperating in the investigation. We will investigate the case and take action accordingly.”
