Bald patches, also known as alopecia, can be a distressing condition that can affect both men and women. While there is no known cure for alopecia, Ayurveda, the traditional medical system of India, offers several natural remedies that may help improve hair growth and reduce the appearance of bald patches.

Here are five Ayurvedic remedies that may be helpful in treating alopecia:

1. Coconut oil: Coconut oil is a natural oil that is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of hair conditions, including alopecia. Sarda says that coconuts' medium-chain fatty acids, like lauric and capric acid, have a lot of antimicrobial and antifungal properties that are essential for preventing free radicals that prevent hair growth. It contains fatty acids that may help nourish the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. To use coconut oil as a remedy, massage a small amount of the oil into the scalp and leave it on for a few hours before washing it out.

2. Amla: Amla is a fruit native to India that is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of hair conditions, including alopecia. It is loaded with essential fatty acids that give your hair strength and shine by strengthening the follicles. Because of its high iron content, potent antioxidants, gallic acid, and carotene content, blood circulation around the scalp is improved, which encourages hair growth and reduces dandruff, which also alleviates dry, itchy scalp. Mix a small amount of amla powder with water or coconut oil to create a paste and apply it to the scalp to get the desired results.

3. Brahmi: Brahmi is a herb native to India that is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of hair conditions, including alopecia. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help nourish the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. Your body's "cortisol," a stress hormone, is reduced by Brahmi. One reason for hair loss is high levels of cortisol. To use Brahmi as a remedy, mix a small amount of Brahmi powder with water or coconut oil to create a paste and apply it to the scalp.

4. Shankhapushpi: Shankhapushpi is a herb native to India that is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a variety of hair conditions, including alopecia. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help nourish the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. Mix a small amount of the herb with water or coconut oil to create a paste and apply it to the scalp.

5. Ayurvedic oils: There are several Ayurvedic oils that may be helpful in treating alopecia, including Bhringraj oil, Amalaki oil and Neem oil. These oils are traditionally used to nourish the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. Massage a small amount of the oil into the scalp and leave it on for a few hours before washing it out.

In classical Ayurveda, the course of typical alopecia areata is predictable based on the distribution and manifestation of the condition, such as a longer period of hair loss and a larger affected area with a lower likelihood of hair regrowth. So, it is important to note that these remedies may not work for everyone and that it's always best to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new treatment.
