IAS jobs are especially for those who want to contribute and introduce changes in society. The story of Priyanka Shukla shows how her interest in serving humanity made her appear for the Civil Services examination so that she can serve society better.

Priyanka was a brilliant student and hence, her parents always wanted her to become an IAS officer. However, her interest was to serve the people by becoming a doctor. After graduating in medicine, the young doctor started working for the poor and downtrodden visiting residences of the low-class citizens.

She would often visit the huts of poor people and advise them about hygiene and living a healthy life. Priyanka would offer them treatment and advice them to change their habits.

During one such visit when she saw a mother drinking dirty water and giving the same to her child, she asked the mother not to do so. Irked by this interference of Priyanka, the mother said, “Tum kya kahi ki collector ho?”

And this gave a big jolt to Priyanka Shukla’s thinking and she decided to become an IAS officer so that she can introduce and make important changes in society and can contribute towards its betterment.

Priyanka could not clear the exam on the first attempt. But she continued her preparations and in 2009 finally became an IAS officer. Shukla has been working as an administrative officer since then in the state of Chhattisgarh. During her tenure of more than 10 years, so far, she has worked in different posts.

Priyanka Shukla has tried her best to encourage people to do better in their lives. Earlier girls from the district of Jashpur focused on becoming only clerks in a government office. But Priyanka encouraged these girls from the Adivasi majority region to try for higher positions and it has certainly helped them aspire for better things in their lives.
