The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed on June 4 every year. The main objective behind observing this day is to bring to light the pain that young children across the globe suffer due to physical, emotional, and mental abuse. The day tries to emphasise the importance of giving attention and performing coordinated efforts for saving such children.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) invaded southern Lebanon in 1982 and during this period the children had to undergo hardships and torture. That is when the United Nations General Assembly met for an emergency session and discussed this grave Palestine question.
A huge number of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children became victims of this invasion which is why the UN decided to observe June 4 as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression every year.
The objective of this day
The main purpose of observing this day is to recognise the sufferings and pain of children who have faced or facing such emotional or physical abuse. Through this step, the UN wants to protect such children and create awareness about protecting such children and offer emotional and medical help in case of need.
More often such children need counselling and even medical help. In 2023 the agenda is sustainable development so that the life and future of the children are secured and their lives are improved. The emphasis is on ending all types of violence against children as well as the neglect, abuse, and exploitation of the children living in the violence-hit areas.
The aim of International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is to offer an opportunity to these children to leave a healthy and happy life free from violence so that they have access to all types of benefits and infrastructure like education and protection that children across the world enjoy.
