Mangoes are one of the reasons why many people love summertime. Packed with nutrients, this king of fruits has a wonderful taste and most importantly there are hundreds of varieties of mangoes that are found all through the country.

Mango is one fruit that can be consumed in multiple ways from pickles, in the form of juice, freshly cut pieces, milkshakes, mango ice creams and lassis, and many more dishes.

However, the consumption of mangoes in excess can cause health troubles. Ayurveda has its own set of rules for eating mangoes.

Soaking mangoes in the right way

Mangoes are covered with a type of phytic acid that can cause allergies and itchiness if it comes into contact with the skin. That is why washing raw and ripened mangoes properly are very important. To ensure that the oil where it has been cut from the tree is removed properly, you must soak mangoes at least for 25 to 30 minutes in a clean bowl of water. That is how the excess phytic acid is removed and you can easily relish the delicious mangoes.

When can you eat mangoes?

Usually, Ayurveda says that fruits should not be eaten with meals. But mangoes are an exception. These fruits can be eaten anytime during breakfast, lunch, and brunch. Eating fruits of any kind should be avoided in the evening. While it is best if you eat it in slices, it can also be eaten along with milk.

There are very few fruits that according to Ayurveda can be eaten with milk and one of them is the ripe mango. You can eat it by mixing it with milk as a milkshake or in breakfast separately along with milk.

Ayurveda says when a ripe mango and milk are combined, it acts as a nourishing tonic and an aphrodisiac that improves complexion and calms pitta and vata. Moreover, this combination of milk and ripe mango is very tasty both as a mango milkshake and mango ice cream.

However, those with digestive issues, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, and skin diseases should avoid the combination of mango and milk.
