  • Miscarriages after IVF treatment can be a big blow to the aspiring mother.
  • Several tests and procedures if carried out before the IVF can reduce the risk of miscarriage.

For every woman, motherhood is a gift from nature. However, not all women are lucky to conceive easily. In many cases, even after medications and IVF treatments, the women have to face miscarriage which can be quite painful emotionally as well as physically.

Nonetheless, you can always reduce the risk of miscarriage post doing IVF by following the given tips.

TSH test

An IVF patient should not miss the TSH test because abnormal TSH levels have been known to cause miscarriage. If any such abnormality is detected in the test then the doctor can prevent miscarriage by recommending appropriate medication to correct abnormal thyroid levels.

Hysteroscopy easily detects uterine problems

More often doctors overlook hysteroscopy which should be a part of the pre-IVF procedure. Usually in IVF clinics hysteroscopy is advised only after the patient goes through multiple miscarriages which is not good for the health of the uterus and can lead to blockages, growths, and damage to the inner walls of the uterus.

The aim should be to become a mother in the first IVF procedure and for that hysteroscopy should be preferred over an ultrasound scan as it not only detects the problems in the uterine but can also rectify them.

The right type of progesterone

Progesterone is recommended during IVF treatment for maintaining pregnancy. You can take it through pessaries, pills, injections, or gel. You need to choose the right type of progesterone that suits you and helps you maintain pregnancy. One of the most effective types is vaginal utrogestan which is especially good if the patient suffers from post-transfer bleeding. They have been found to be good at guarding against miscarriage.

Maintain good health and weight

Many times the cause behind miscarriage is never known. But maintaining good health and ideal weight certainly reduces the risk of miscarriage. Prior to starting the IVF treatment, both partners should stop drinking and smoking and adopt a health regime that includes losing extra kilos, exercising regularly, and eating a balanced diet.

The partners must avoid having sex after the transfer of the embryo as having sex immediately after this procedure increases miscarriage risk.

Identify blood disorders first

Blood clots are the first signs of miscarriage. To avoid such clotting you must perform tests for identifiable blood disorders before taking the IVF treatment. Most of the disorders can be treated with blood thinners and the risk of miscarriage can be cut down.
