Amid the unabated rise in dengue cases in the Capital city of Odisha, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come up with a set of instructions to prevent further spread of the vector-borne disease.

In an order, the BMC said it should be the responsibility of all citizens to prevent stagnation of clean water at places which are lying uncovered and, thereby, becoming breeding grounds of the dengue- causing mosquitoes.

To prevent any possible outbreak and spread of the disease, the BMC has issued some instructions stating that those concerned need to adhered to the same to help contain the disease in the Capital City.

As per the BMC, the public parks which are closed due to COVID-19 pandemic should be inspected and places where there is possibility of stagnant water/ clean water or rain water, like open dustbins, discarded containers etc should be checked and cleaned to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.

All heads of the government offices should ensure that there is no stagnant water present within their office premises, including their rooftops. A staff may be given the responsibility for checking this aspect everyday as soon as the office opens.

The Head of all private offices have also been instructed to follow the same procedure like that in government offices to contain dengue surge.

All heads of the educational institutions should also take similar steps for preventing storage of clear water inside their premises and assign this task for checking everyday with a responsible officer, it said.

In-charges at factories and industrial houses should also take special care in preventing this within their premises. They should take Immediate steps to prevent stagnation of clean water and conduct regular checks in their premises.

Seized vehicles lying inside the Police Station premises are also potential sources of stagnant rain water which attracts the mosquitoes for breeding. The llC concerned should take special care and clear all such stored stagnant water and cover the vehicle area to prevent storing of rain water in vehicles, the order read.

Vehicle repairing shops, garage owners, tyre puncture repairing shops have also a large role to play in preventing the storage of clean stagnant water in the vehicle parts/tyres which stores rainwater. They should cover such areas forthwith and prevent stagnation of water, the BMC ordered.

All the office bearers of the Resident Welfare Association should also take steps to prevent any such clean water logging within their premises to prevent breeding, it said.

All these instructions need to be followed scrupulously by all concerned, said the BMC while issuing a warning that “enforcement wing of BMC will conduct surprise check on all such establishments mentioned above and anyone found violating these instructions will be penalized/prosecuted as per law”.
