To minimise the spread of Covid-19, servitors, police personnel and officials of Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), who are set to take part in the annual Rath Yatra festival, will undergo RT-PCR tests from today.

The testing will be done at the Utkal Hindi Vidyapitha as part of the four times testing to be done by the temple administration ahead of the Deva Snana Purnima to be held on June 24.

Earlier, it has been decided in a meeting, chaired by SJTA chief  Krishan Kumar, that the frequent tests would ensure the safety of everyone making arrangements for the July 12 Rath Yatra which involves preparations and rituals that last for over a month.

It is worth mentioning that keeping Covid-19 pandemic in view, it has been decided that Deva Snana Purnima and Rath Yatra will be observed in Puri this year sans devotees. SJTA, district administration and police have started full preparation for the upcoming world famous Rath Yatra. The chariot construction work in Puri is continuing in full swing with the construction of 14 nahakas.

Meanwhile, a virtual meeting will be held today under the chairmanship of SJTA chief to fix the schedule of the rituals for the forthcoming Deva Snana Purnima of Lord Jagannath on June 24 amid Covid-19 guidelines.
