Every nation has its differences of religion, caste, and creed. India is a democratic nation where both the majority and minorities enjoy the same laws and fundamental rights. Even then due to certain limitations, many times help does not reach minorities as it should.
To recognise this difference and ensure that minorities especially those who come under the economically and socially weaker category benefit from the administrative policies, Minorities Rights Day in India is celebrated every year on December 18.
The day is celebrated to create awareness about tough situations the disadvantaged people are going through and how those who are privileged can make a difference by being a support.
Contributing to the cause
Unawareness and discrimination based on caste have been the reasons why many communities could not grow and match the level of progress that the others have. The government has repeatedly introduced new schemes and concessions to such minority groups so that they can match the level achieved by other Indian citizens.
More often it is the poor and those in the rural areas who are less aware of the available benefits to them both regarding good education and employment schemes. Many NGOs run various schemes to make minorities aware of their rights and teach them when and how to use them.
A well-educated and privileged person can join such NGOs and expand this work further. Importantly, whenever you see a group or a community of minorities struggling to overcome their difficulties, you can help them by directing them to the right support group.
Even such a small help can go a long way in sorting out their problems and giving them the chance to progress which they so rightly deserve.
