Nayanthara
Celebrities endorsing fitness and diet products is nothing new. However, as internet users are becoming more savvy they have now started to understand the hidden reasons for such promotions from big celebrities because most of the time these are not genuine suggestions or tips but paid promotions.
Currently, the Tollywood superstar Nayanthara is under the scanner for promoting a Hibiscus tea product which according to her post has been long used in Ayurveda and is her favourite. In her post, the Jawan actress stated the benefits of drinking Hibiscus tea saying, “It is high in antioxidants and is helpful in diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart-related ailments. It is very cooling for the system hence it is great for those who have acne, heat boils on the skin, etc.”
She added, “Hibiscus tea is great for the monsoon season as it is rich in vitamins and keeps our immune system in equilibrium. It has antibacterial effects that protect from seasonal infection/ illness.” Nayanthara has even shared the recipe for making this tea in her IG story.
Just hours after the actress posted these benefits on Hibiscus tea, an Insta user -The Liver Doc (Dr. Cyriac Abby Phillips) who is a hepatologist called out the actress for sharing such a misleading post. He is the same doctor who has been in the news for calling out Samantha Ruth Prabhu weeks earlier for her post on health-related products.
This is cinema actress Nayantara who has more than twice the following of the other actress Samantha miselading her 8.7 million followers on a supplement called hibiscus tea.

If she had stopped at hibiscus tea is kind of tasty, that would have been ok. But no, they have to go… pic.twitter.com/d1fQCohsGU
In his elaborate post on X, Dr. Cyriac wrote, “If she had stopped at hibiscus tea is kind of tasty, that would have been ok. But no, they have to go ahead and blow their health-illiteracy trumpet and also claim that hibiscus tea is helpful in diabetes, high blood pressure, acne, antibacterial, and protects against the flu..”
1/8 Ok, so after the actress Nayantara indirectly "abused" me and silently deleted her post on hibiscus tea benefits, her "celebrity nutritionist" Ms. Munmum Ganeriwal, whom I called a "quack" has responded strongly against me...proving that she is indeed a "quack.

The doctor also said that the post did not clarify whether the tea was made from Hibiscus Macranthus or Hibiscus Sabdariffa. He added that no studies support the claims that are made in the post of Nayanthara and instead shared links that suggest that regular consumption of Hibiscus tea can develop issues in both men and women.
Hours later, Nayanthara shared a cryptic note indirectly slamming Dr. Cyriac. The post read, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” In reply, the doctor has taken a dig at the lady superstar saying, “Update: Even though not an apology, the actress has made an apology-like post asking people not to argue with celebrities like her.”

Through this controversy, web users who have been observing this give-and-take have slammed the actress for misusing her celebrity status. A user wrote, “The audacity of these sick sick greedy people. You already have enough money for a few generations why profit off misinformation and selling people false hope.”
A few compared Nayan with Samantha saying, “What has happened to South actress nowadays. First Samantha now Nayanthara. Now, Rashmika don't promote these things.”
