When Saroj Khan recalled her infamous fight with Rekha; shared interesting Bollywood tidbits Watch

Saroj Khan is one of the most famous Bollywood choreographers ever. She has contributed hugely in the popularity of top Bollywood actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit who many times insisted that Sarojji should do their choreography. But despite working in the industry for decades even masterji as she was fondly called had to face some starry tantrums from none other than then superstar Rekha.

In one of the throwback interviews Saroj Khan revealed how Rekha’s behaviour stalled shooting for a couple of days.

Rekha sat in the car and refused to rehearse with Saroj Khan

It was the time when Saroj Khan was roped in to choreograph an important dance number for the movie Sheshnaag which was to be picturised on Rekha. Recalling the exact incident and details of her infamous feud with the Koi Mil Gaya actress Sarojji said, “Hume producer ne bahot kam waqt diya tha. Jo recording 26 ko honewali thi woh ho gayi 28 ko. Toh hume teen din mil rahe the rehearsal ke liye. Mera group aur hum milke din raat uss cheez ko compose kiya. Maine producer se request kiya ki Rekhaji ko hamare pass bhej dijiye. It’s a very difficult dance.”

“Rekhaji nahi aayi. Teen din kuch tabiyat kharab thi ya shooting thi. Jahan tak muzhe malum hai shooting thi. Jis din aaye paheli tarikh thi. Dress nahi pahena tha. Sirf makeup lagaya tha. Car mein bahar baiithi thi. Main bahar gayi,” Saroj Khan added.

When the choreographer asked her what was the matter, Rekha asked her to cancel the shooting since she was not well. Saroj Khan was upset and directly said to Rekha that you are allergic to me which is why you do not come for rehearsals whenever I ask you to come. Saroj Khan told Rekha, “ Ya toh aap dance master change kar lijiye. Producer ko kehe dijiye ki I don’t want to work with Saroj. Kuch toh gadbad hai. You don’t want to work with me? Ayubji ko bol dijiye.”

Suddenly Rekha started crying and then went to her makeup room to get ready. Later on, Rekha rehearsed and completed the song all on her own without taking the help of a body double despite a few steps being very difficult.

Stars have their favourite choreographers – Saroj Khan

In the same interview Saroj Khan said that superstars do have their favourite and they recommend the names of choreographers to the producers. She said that Govinda and Dimple Kapadia loves to work with Chinni Prakash even though they are her students, similarly Rekha’s favourite was Kamal. Nevertheless, Saroj Khan was favourite of Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit and together their team gave some unforgettable dance numbers to Bollywood.
