Imtiaz Ali once shared real reason for replacing Bobby Deol in Jab We Met Watch

Imtiaz Ali-directed Jab We Met continues to be one of the best movies from the many films directed by the famous director. Apart from that it is also one of the best movies from the career graph of both Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor who played the leads in this romantic drama. Both Bebo and Sasha made the characters of Geet and Aditya iconic respectively.

But when recently Bobby Deol during an interview said that it was him who was first going to do Jab We Met with Imtiaz Ali fans were surprised. What’s more Lord Bobby as the Deol actor is fondly referred to even said that it was a story written for him based on his request but eventually the filmmaker dropped him and went ahead to make the movie with Shahid Kapoor .

But a year-old video clip of Imtiaz Ali’s interview shows the director sharing what exactly happened that forced him to replace Bobby with Shahid Kapoor.

Imtiaz Ali said he wanted to make Jab We Met with Bobby Deol

During one of his interviews, the Highway director said that he was planning to do Jab We Met with Bobby Deol. According to Imtiaz Ali, “Bobby start kare pictures, start kare pictures (the director kept on saying this to Bobby Deol). But usko kuch aur offers mil gaye the. Kuch bade directors’ ke saath toh woh wait kar raha tha, wait kar raha tha. Ki matlab kehe raha tha ki iske baad kar lenge, iske baad kar lenge. Toh karte kart ek aisa waqt aa gaya jo mujhe laga ki ab ye thik nahi hai. Bahut waqt beet chuka hai”

“Vaise bhi paanch sal tak maine ek hi film ki hai. Uske baad bhi ek do saal main kuch nahi kar raha tha.Toh matlab financially and even in life if you want to do things. Toh maine bola Bobby yeh film nahi banate hai hum log. Let us decide this today. Let us shake our hands. Ki film nahi banate because hamara phir ek dusre ke saath sahi nahi rahega. Toh hamne decide kar liya tha ek particular day ko ki hum film nahi banayenge saath mein", said Imtiaz Ali.

So this is an entirely different angle from what Bobby Deol has said. Whatever the real reason may be, fans now cannot imagine Bobby Deol playing role of Aditya instead of Shahid Kapoor and the pair of Bebo and Shahid in Jab We Met continues to remain iconic for Bollywood fans.
