Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha in 96

In a piece of good news for Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha-starrer Tamil blockbuster ‘96’ fans, director Prem Kumar has reportedly finished writing the script for its sequel. The script was loved so much by producer Ishari K. Ganesh that he is said to have gifted the director a gold chain as a token of appreciation.

The original film, directed by Prem Kumar and starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan, was a blockbuster hit, loved for its soulful storytelling and nostalgic romance. Now, fans are eagerly waiting for the sequel.

Bad News For Fans

Apart from the good news, there is also some bad news for the fans. If reports are to be believed, Dragon fame actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan is reportedly replacing Vijay Sethupathi in the much-anticipated sequel.

As per reports, versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi is reportedly reluctant to return for the second installment. While the reasons remain unclear, this development has prompted the makers to explore other casting options.

Pradeep Ranganathan, the actor-director who rose to fame with Love Today and more recently Dragon, has reportedly been approached to play the lead in the sequel.

No Confirmation Yet

Though nothing has been officially confirmed, the news has already stirred discussions among fans. Whether Pradeep will indeed step into Vijay Sethupathi’s shoes remains to be seen.

For now, all eyes are on Prem Kumar and the official announcement that could soon follow, deciding the fate of one of Tamil cinema’s most beloved love stories.

Worth mentioning, 96 revolved around the reunion of former students from the batch of 1996, twenty-two years after their graduation. Starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, the film was one of the most loved movies of 2018.
