SSMB29: SS Rajamouli locks Mahesh Babu's leading lady for the epic adventure!

The hype around SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu's upcoming project, tentatively titled SSMB29 has remained quite high since the day of its announcement. While reports have been abuzz that the yet-to-be-titled movie is set against the backdrop of an epic adventure, fans have been eagerly waiting for the next update. Meanwhile, fans have been wondering about the leading lady to be paired with Mahesh Babu. However, the latest report claims that the RRR helmer has finally locked the leading lady for SSMB29.

According to an exclusive report by Pinkvilla, the Baahubali helmer has locked Priyanka Chopra as the leading lady opposite Mahesh Babu in the highly-anticipated big-budget movie. 

The entertainment portal quoted a close source to the development as saying, "The film is in the final stages of writing, and is all set to go on floors in April 2025. SS Rajamouli was looking for a female lead with a global presence, and who better than Priyanka to play the lead role."

Further, the source also revealed that Rajamouli had multiple meetings with Priyanka over the last six months. Finally, the energies have aligned for both.

Well, if the reports are anything to go by, SSMB29 will mark Priyanka's return to the Indian Film Industry after six long years. Priyanka, who was last seen in Sky Is Pink, is also highly excited to team up with Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu.

"It’s an unchartered territory for her as well, and the character has scope for a lot of action along with the leading man,  Mahesh Babu. It’s a well-crafted role, and Priyanka has already started her prep for the film," the source added.

According the earlier reports, SSMB29 will be a one of its kind African Jungle Adventure that will feature Mahesh Babu as an explorer having the characteristics of Lord Hanuman. Written by Vijayendra Prasad, the globe-trotting adventure is set largely against the backdrop of the Amazon rainforest. The movie promises to deliver an extraordinary cinematic experience to the viewers by introducing them to a new world that has never been seen before in Indian cinema. 

The movie will feature an ensemble cast, with several foreign actors playing key roles. It is also expected to be titled Garuda. However, there has been no official confirmation on this yet. While the pre-production work is moving at a rapid pace, the filming will expectedly begin in January 2025 and wrap up until the end of 2026. The makers have a target to release the movie in 2027. Reportedly, the scale of this film indicates it will be an epic, larger-than-life experience.
