  • SRK's Dunki is the first non-action blockbuster to cross 200 crore in domestic market after Corona pandemic.
  • Now the makers are planning to take the movie to the Oscars.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki helmed by Raj Kumar Hirani will now go to the Oscars. While it may not be sent as an official entry from India, Red Chillies Entertainment is separately going to file nominations for the movie in main categories.

Red Chillies is owned by King Khan and since the production house is going ahead with the nominations for the first time, it seems Shah Rukh Khan has great hopes from Dunki to win big at the Oscars. Dunki is considered the first non-action blockbuster to cross the 400-crore mark after Corona pandemic.

It is a movie based on a social issue and hence many believe that it stands a good chance of getting accepted in at least a few categories. However, there are a few who believe that Dunki’s main focus revolves around immigrants and since the Western world is strictly against immigrants entering illegally into their countries, this Shah Rukh Khan movie might not get an entry as the jury at the Oscars will be headed by Western film personalities.

Dunki has crossed 200 crore in domestic market

Dunki failed to replicate the success of Pathaan and Jawan, but it still is a big hit considering that it was comparatively made on a low budget and has already crossed 200 crore in the domestic market. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, and Taapsee Pannu in important roles.

Importantly, it faced tough competition from Prabhas and Prashanth Neel’s mega project Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire. While Salaar 1 has become a huge blockbuster, Dunki managed to hold its feet. And that is all because of the stardom of SRK and the credit of Raj Kumar Hirani.

Reportedly, Shah Rukh is now looking for new scripts and is in talks with Karan Johar and Vishal Bhardwaj for upcoming projects.
