Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan is among the box office kings who assure multiplied returns of the gross investment in movies. Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan with screen name Salman Khan made his debut in the BTown in 1988 with Biwi Ho Aisi. However, he went unrecognised as he played a supporting role to Rekha and Farooq Sheikh.
As a lead actor, Salman was seen in 1989's Maine Pyaar Kiya helmed by Sooraj Barjatya which also starred Bhagyashree in the lead. The romantic family drama went on to become a blockbuster of all time and got listed among the highest-grossing Indian films. Though Salman got his first nomination for the Best Actor at Filmfare along with a nomination for best Make Debut, the actor went jobless.
Yes, you got it right!
Earlier during an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Salman revealed that his career seemed to be on the verge of sinking as even after his blockbuster, he went jobless for around 4- 5 months.
As said by Salman, his co-star Bhagyashree from Maine Pyaar Kiya got married and quit the film industry even after the movie became a blockbuster. However, the actress took away all the credit for the film with such a decision.
Salman said, “Uske baad 4-5 mahine tak koi kaam nahi mila tha mujhe. Aisa lag raha tha ki kaam milega bhi nahi kyunki Bhagyashree madam ne uss waqt decide kar liya tha ki main ab filmein nahi karungi, main shaadi karungi. Unhone jaake shaadi kar liya aur poora credit, jo credit hota hai film ka, woh leke bhaag gayi. (I did not get any work for around four or five months after the release of Maine Pyaar Kiya. I thought I would not even get any work because Bhagyashree decided that she would get married and quit films. She got married and ran away with the entire credit of the film’s success).”
Further, he went on to add, "Aisa laga industry walon ko ki main toh woh thi, yeh toh kuch nahi the (Everyone from the industry thought she was the main reason for which the movie worked and I was just there in it).”
However, at such a challenging time, Salman's father and story, screenplay and dialogue writer Salim Khan stepped to his rescue. Salim asked GP Sippy to announce that he had signed Salman for a movie. The big announcement was made in a trade magazine following which filmmakers and producers queued up with offers in front of Salman.
Talking about his remuneration Salman also said that he was paid Rs 31, 000 for Maine Pyaar Kiya and the payment increased to Rs 75, 000 in the second movie.
Since then, Salman has never seen back and went on achieving several milestones throughout his acting career spanning around 33 years. The actor is fondly called Sallu Bhai by his fans and has a vast fandom across several generations which can be judged by the box office collections of his movies.
On the work front, Salman is busy in Tiger 3 shooting which also stars Katrina Kaif in the lead. He will also be seen in Antim which is all set to hit the theatres.
