2020 and 2021 were very bad for Bollywood as the theaters were closed. But 2022 made sure that the film industry recovers what it lost although most of the recovery came through Southern movies whereas big banners and big superstars from Bollywood failed to contribute towards it.

Here are the top movies that created a riot at the box office and even lured the overseas audience to a large extent.

KGF 2

Undeniably, it was one of the most awaited sequels of this decade and this Prashanth Neel and Yash movie ensured that what they offered was worth the wait. KGF Chapter 2 also included Bollywood big names like Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon and did exceedingly well across India and worldwide.

Made on a budget of Rs 100 crore it fetched Rs 900 crore in India and around Rs 1200 crore worldwide.

RRR

This big-budget Rajamouli movie was a stupendous success worldwide and has even earned an international award for the director. It has also been nominated at the Oscars 2022. Starring NTR Jr, and Ram Charan in the lead, the movie also had Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in a cameo. RRR was made on a massive budget of Rs 550 crore and earned Rs 902 crore domestically and around Rs 1100 crore worldwide.

Vikram

Kamal Hasaan returned to the big screen with Vikram after a long gap. The movie which also starred Vijay Sethupathi, Shivani Narayanan, and Fahadh Faasil in important roles surprised everyone with its huge success. Made on a budget of Rs 110 crore, domestically Vikram earned around Rs 225 crore and around Rs 500 crore worldwide.

Ponniyin Selvan 1

Made on a massive budget of Rs 500 crore, this dream project of famous director Mani Ratnam although failed to reach the levels of Baahubali as expected, still managed to become one of the top 5 big hits of India in 2022. With a big lineup of star cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, and Trisha Krishnan, the movie earned Rs 234 crore domestically and 434 crores worldwide.

Now fans are eagerly waiting for the sequel to hit the theaters.

Brahmastra-Part one 1 - Shiva

Dharma Productions had already announced that Brahmastra is a trilogy and will be made in 3 parts. The first part-Shiva starring Ranbir Kapoor , Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and more did massive business. Made on a budget of Rs 410 crore, the movie fetched Rs 255 crore in the domestic market and Rs 425 crore worldwide.

Interestingly, except Brahmastra-1 none of the Bollywood movies could make it to the top 5 this year. The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Beast, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Sarkari Vaari Paata completed the top 10 biggest successes of Indian cinema in 2022.
