In his clarification, he said that his intention was not to criticize the whole community. Sonu Nigam Explains Bengaluru Concert Controversy

On Saturday, Sonu Nigam shared a video on Instagram in which he explained the Bengaluru concert controversy. He started the video by saying 'Kannada Kannada' in two different voice tempos. While one sounded as a gentle request, the other was aggressive.

The singer said that there were 4/5 individuals who were shouting 'Kannada Kannada'. However, there were several others stopping them and asking them not to create disturbance at the concert.

In the video, Sonu says, "Un paanchon ko ye batana aur yaad dilaana bohot zaroori tha ki, Pahalgam mein jab pant utaari gayi thi, tab bhasha nahi puchhi gayi thi (It was necessary  to remind those five that when the pants were taken off in Pahalgam, no one asked about the language)."

Furthermore, he added, "Everywhere, there are 4-5 such bad people, no matter which state they’re from. But it’s very important to remind them that you cannot let them threaten you, to make you sing. The whole world is doing it with love."

"When I come, I bring a one-hour set of Kannada songs. But for those who provoke others, it’s very important to stop them right away. Kyunki ye bawaseer ban jaate hain phir baad mein," he said.

The singer also said that Kannadigas are lovely people and it is not important to generalise them.

"If someone is sowing the seeds of hatred in the land of love, we need to stop them. Kannadigas are beautiful people, so please let’s not generalize them. There were just 4/ 5 boys who were looking at me angrily after I finished my first song. They weren’t demanding, they were threatening. You can ask people who were there," said Sonu.

Bengaluru Concert Controversy

A couple of days ago, a video of Sonu Nigam from the Bengaluru concert went wildly viral on social media. Sonu paused the show and was seen schooling some individuals as they allegedly repeatedly asked the singer to sing a Kannada song. The singer said that he loves Kannadigas and has sung some of his best songs in Kannada.

A visibly upset Sonu also stated that the demand was 'rudely threatening'. However, what enraged the Kannada activists was Sonu's statement, 'This is the reason behind the incident in Pahalgam. Please see who is standing before you. I love you guys.' The activists interpreted his statement as comparing the language struggle of Kannadigas to terrorism.
