PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

During a Bengaluru concert, Sonu Nigam faced interruption as a fan demanded a Kannada song. Comparing it to the Pahalgam attack, his reaction drew mixed social media feedback.

Sonu Nigam

Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam found himself at the center of a brief controversy during his concert in Bengaluru, after a fan reportedly shouted ‘Kannada! Kannada!, mid-performance, requesting the singer to sing a Kannada song.

Nigam, known for his calm demeanor, was visibly irked by the interruption. As he continued with his performance, the fan's demand for a Kannada song rang out several times. Initially attempting to ignore it, Nigam eventually lost his composure.

Nigam’s Comparison With Pahalgam Attack:

“Mujhe accha nahin laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahin hogi use pehle toh main Kannada gaane garaha hoon (I didn’t like the boy whose age, I have been singing Kannada songs before he was even born),” Sonu said.

He continued, “He was so rudely threatening me, ‘Kannada, Kannada’. Yahi Kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo kar rahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai. I love Kannadigas, I love you guys (This is the reason what happened in Pahalgam. This is the reason, what you did just now. Look at first who is standing in front of you).”

Mixed Reaction On Social Media:

The singer’s reaction sparked mixed responses on social media, with some criticizing him for overreacting, while many supported his stance, calling for concert etiquette and respect for performers. Eyewitnesses noted that Nigam quickly regained his composure and continued the performance, even going on to sing a popular Kannada track later in the evening — a gesture many saw as an olive branch to local fans.
