Veteran Ollywood actor Uttam Mohanty airlifted to Medanta Hospital
Veteran Ollywood actor Uttam Mohanty passed away while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Delhi on Thursday. Uttam Mohanty was suffering from liver complications. Mohanty’s son and actor Babushaan informed about the tragic news.
“Odisha has lost a diamond. He had a cardiac arrest at around 10:41 PM and breathed his last. Doctors tried their best, but it was Lord Jagannath’s wish,” informed actor Rabi Mishra.
Likewise, actor Sritam Das stated, “I’m associated with him since my birth because my original name is Uttam Kumar Das. He was already a superstar when I entered into movies. So, as per the suggestion of a producer, I had to change my name to Sritam. He will always be a special person for me. He had given me so much love. I’m very close to his family.”
Uttam Mohanty has left behind a significant impact on the Odia film industry, with a career spanning several decades. Fans and peers mourn the death of the actor while remembering his illustrious contributions.
He appeared in over 150 films and was celebrated for his versatile acting. He was a beloved figure in the Odia community. His contributions earned him several accolades and a lasting legacy in Odia cinema.
Uttam Mohanty, to his credit, has more than 135 Odia films. Besides, he acted in 30 Bengali films and in a Hindi film Naya Zaher. Born and brought up in Baripada, he was inclined toward acting from his college days.
Uttam Mohanty was the only star in the Odia cinema horizon to have been at the top for nearly two decades, dominating the Odia film industry throughout the 80s and 90s.
Uttam Mohanty was married to veteran actress Aparajita. Their son Babushaan is now among the lead actors in the Odia film industry.
