Mrs.
Mrs led by Sanya Malhotra, Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljeet Singh is an OTT release that hit the web last month. It received lot of appreciation for showcasing the struggles of modern woman who want to make a career for herself but is forced to sit at home and perform household duties without asking any questions.
The work of Sanya Malhotra also was highly appreciated. It certainly is an important topic that needs to be discussed on major platforms so that the modern woman of today does not have to choose between her career and home. Unfortunately, many men could not accept the thought that went behind the making of Mrs.
Nishant Dahiya plays the husband of Sanya Malhotra in Mrs. He is the man who acts as the typical male in a patriarchal household. Since the film promotes strong female characters and is a bold movie many men have started reacting negatively towards it. Recently during an interview, Dahiya said that he received abusive messages for working in Mrs. Most of these messages were either aggressive or personal and were triggered because the movie challenged the deep-rotted system of patriarchy in Indian households.
The film was intended to bring awareness among society regarding the plights and struggles of women who want to work outside but are treated as doormats at home. And it has certainly made the expected impact. But sending abuses at the actor when he is just doing his job is an indication that the majority of Indians still have regressive mindsets and try their best to resist the shift in outlook towards women.
While there is nothing wrong when traditional values clash with the modern concepts of women empowerment, the approach should be civil so that things can be cleared with discussions and interactions. But abusing and insulting the actors is not going to help the society in the long run.
