Pawandeep Rajan, from Uttarakhand, was declared the winner of Indian Idol 12. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh and a Maruti Suzuki Swift car. Arunita Kanjilal and Sayli Kamble were first and second runners-up respectively.

Pawandeep beat Arunita Kanji, Sayali Kamble, Mohd Danish, Nihal Tauro and Shanmukhapriya to lift the coveted trophy in the final which ran for 12 hours.

During the marathon 12-hour run, the contestants paid emotional tributes to the Armed forces and other defence organisations with their performance on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day.

Apart from judges Sonu Kakkar, Vishal Dadlani , Himesh Reshammiya and Anu Malik, the finale saw the presence of the cast of Shershaah - Kiara Advani, Sidharth Malhotra.

The grand finale saw the contestants perform with Kumar Sanu, Vishal Dadlani, Udit Narayan, Khali, Alka Yagnik, Anu Malik and ex-winner Sreerama Chandra.

After winning the show, Pawandeep, in a candid interview to ETimes, said he wasn't feeling great when he won the show. 

He said, "When I got the trophy I was not feeling very great because all of us were deserving. We all have planned to work together in future and we will be in contact with each other even after the show."

On being questioned about what he will do with the prize money, Pawandeep said that he wishes to open a music school in his hometown to give proper guidance to talented kids.

"So many people come to this city with dreams in their eyes and struggle for years and Indian Idol gave us a chance to be a part of this show, I am very thankful," Pawandeep concluded.
