To honour fatherhood and the role fathers play in society, the world dedicated the third Sunday of June month as Father's Day and this year, it falls on Sunday (June 19).
Why is Father's Day celebrated on the third Sunday of June?
The world celebrates ‘Father's Day’ as a tradition that started in 1910 in the US where a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honour her father and other men who took on the paternal mantle. Sonora’s father was a civil war veteran who selflessly raised six children by himself after their mother died during childbirth. Knowing about Mother’s Day celebration, Sonora felt that a father’s role also needed recognition. She went to the Spokane Ministerial Alliance and asked them to recognise her father’s birthday, 5 June, as Father’s Day to honour the fathers all around the world. However, the date was pushed, and the celebration was eventually deferred to the third Sunday of June.
From then on, people across the world started celebrating Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June.

The trend of celebrating Father's day has got a modern touch with the boom of technology and the craze of social media. While Twitter got poured with pictures and special wishes by everyone, many celebrities from the cricket fraternity took to social media to celebrate the day.

Is it enough to limit the celebration to social media?
