Don 3, the third instalment of the Don franchise, has remained the talk of the town ever since its announcement. While fans were highly excited to see Shah Rukh Khan as Don for the third time, their hopes shattered soon after the makers announced roping in Ranveer Singh replacing SRK for the titular role after the Pathaan actor walked out of the project.

Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar announced Ranveer Singh in the titular role for the third project under the franchise, and it received mixed reactions. Later, the makers dropped the actor's first look as Don. However, it didn't go well with many. Even to date, the debate over Ranveer Singh in the titular role continues and several movie lovers are yet to accept it.

However, did you know, the Cirkus actor was not the first choice of the makers after SRK's rejection? 

Yes, it was none other than Animal actor Ranbir Kapoor, whom the makers approached for Don 3 before finalizing the Bajirao Mastani actor. 

As per a report in Mid-Day, Farhan Akhtar approached Ranbir for Don 3 after SRK's script rejection. However, RK also said no to the offer which eventually came to Ranveer Singh.

The previous parts of the Don franchise starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead were released in 2006 and 2011. The first part of the franchise is also a remake of 1978's Don starring Amitabh Bachchan.

The reaction to Ranveer playing Don in the third instalment is obvious for many as earlier the titular role has been played by two iconic actors, Amitabh Bachchan, and Shah Rukh Khan. It seems the audience is not ready to accept Ranveer Singh in the iconic role. However, the actor urged the audience to give him a chance to prove himself and meet their expectations. Well, after Don 3 hits the theaters, it will be clarified if Ranveer meets everyone's expectations or if Ranbir would have been suitable for the role.
