Young actor Agastya Nanda, the grandson of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, recently shocked everyone after he disclosed that he didn’t look at Amitabh Bachchan as a superstar and he was unaware of his grandfather’s immense fame for years. Rather, he has always been a fan of his uncle (Mamu) Abhishek Bachchan, whose films he grew up watching.
Recently, in an interview, he shared another hilarious anecdote. During the interview with Film Companion, Agastya shared insights into his journey as an actor. He shed light on the amusing and awkward experiences he encountered while seeking opportunities in the film industry.
Agastya made his debut with the Netflix film ‘The Archies’. The new entrant in the industry shared that he had auditioned for his role in The Archies and has actively visited filmmakers at their offices in search of more work. Due to his absence on social media, and growing up in Delhi away from the cinematic hub, he is relatively unknown in film circles.
Recounting a hilarious incident, Agastya said, “I had gone to another office where the security guard as like, ‘Idhar aa, Idhar aa (Come here).’ He said, ‘Naam likh, package delivery time bata. (Write down your name and the delivery time of the package).’ I said, I’ve not come here to deliver the package, I’ve come here to meet the director. Then he said, ‘Nahi nahi, jhooth mat bol (No, don’t lie)’. This happens quite a lot. The disadvantages of not having social media.”
Sharing another incident, the actor said he was made to wait for 45 minutes at a filmmaker’s office, only to overhear the staff discussing why he hadn’t arrived yet. Later, Agastya had to clarify his identity and explain that he had been waiting for close to an hour.
Earlier, talking about his grandfather, Agastya said that his family doesn’t bring work home. “My nana never spoke about work at home. So, I found it very normal. I thought, ‘Okay, he’s a normal granddad,’ but I only realised when he came to school on annual day that, ‘Oh God, he is someone.’ It was normal up till then.”
“When he’d show up, everyone would go crazy and I just couldn’t understand why everyone was going crazy. That’s when I realised. And then, of course, when I started watching cinema, I was like, ‘Okay, he’s kind of good at this.”
Recently, Agastya made his Instagram debut on January 11.
On the work front, Agastya is gearing up for his second movie, Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis. He will be seen sharing the screen with Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat in the biopic based on the life of Arun Khetrapal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. Acknowledging their seniority, Agastya talked about his nervousness about sharing the screen with seasoned actors like Dharmendra and Jaideep. The new entrant hopes to learn a great deal from these legendary actors.
