The national award winning actor and director was already a big name when Kargil War happened in 1999. Since Nana Patekar had taken a proper military training before directing the movie Prahaar based on the lives of soldiers, he appealed the Indian Army to let him join the Army during the war.
Initially he was denied but later on seeing his deep intent and due to the intense practice sessions he had with the Maratha Light Infantry earlier during the movie-making, the then Defense Minister allowed him to serve the Indian Army as a captain during Kargil War.
Those from the 90s can easily recall the Shakuni Mama from the serial Mahabharata that aired on Doordarshan. Before becoming an actor, Gufi Paintal was a part of the Indian Army and served the country during the India-China war. At that time he was an engineering student who was directly recruited in the artillery department of the Indian Army.
